Handmade Illustrated Ceramics
Jessica Baldry is a ceramic artist and illustrator based in Norwich, creating handmade, wheel-thrown stoneware pottery. Quiet, functional and decorative forms are combined with original hand-drawn illustrations, applied directly to the clay using slip and glaze.
Each piece is made slowly, with calm and intention; a gentle exploration of form, texture, and the beauty of slowing down.
Where Illustration Meets Clay
Drawing plays a central role in Jessica’s ceramic practice. Illustrations are not added as an afterthought, but developed alongside form; responding to shape, scale, and the way each piece will be held and used.
Through wheel-throwing, hand-drawing, and careful firing, each ceramic object carries the quiet marks of its making, celebrating process, imperfection, and the tactile nature of clay.
“For me, clay is a meditation. The gentle rhythm of throwing, the quiet repetition of form, and the soft traces of touch all reflect a slower, more mindful way of being. Each piece carries the calm of its making process; a reminder to slow down, to hold, and to find stillness in the small moments that make up daily life.”
